Sometimes, I stumble upon camper vans that are so visually appealing that I just have to share them with you. That’s the case with the rig I’m checking out today—it has a unique interior design that not only looks gorgeous but also integrates many useful features.

Meet Alysa and her Ford Transit camper van. Alyssa is a photographer, brand designer, and visual strategist, so it shouldn’t surprise us that she managed to create a stunning living space for her mobile home. This project is even more impressive because it’s a DIY build.

Alyssa built it with some help from her father. It took them about nine months to complete it back in 2020. She described it as “the best quarantine project she could’ve asked for.”

Usually, I start the tour from the outside, but there’s not much to discuss regarding the vehicle’s exterior. The only notable exterior upgrades are the solar panels on the roof, which have a total capacity of 500 W, and a window Alyssa installed on the sliding door.

The lack of other exterior accessories makes this rig suitable for stealth camping. Why would someone want to do that? Among other reasons, it increases safety and allows one to avoid paying camping charges.

The biggest transformation happened on the inside. Slide the entrance open, and a superbly designed interior will greet you. Alyssa opted for a warm aesthetic consisting of pinkish-beige cabinetry, a beautiful slatted ceiling with many puck lights, and laminate flooring. A white tiled backsplash and gold accents, such as gold-leaf handles, complement the look.

Even though I haven’t stepped inside this rig in real life, even seeing it through the screen conveyed a sense of calmness and tranquility. I think that’s the vibe Alyssa wanted for the interior, and she nailed it.

To make the living space feel even more like a home (instead of the back of a van), Alyssa chose a closed layout, separating the driver’s cabin from the rest of the interior via a wall. However, she devised a tall, mirrored door for easier access to the driver’s cabin.

You’ll discover the rig’s kitchen dead ahead of the entrance. It has a simple yet functional setup: a farmhouse-style sink, a small Dometic fridge/freezer, a water filter, and a portable camping stove.

For storage, you can use two sizeable overhead cabinets, a pull-out pantry, two drawers, and a cabinet underneath the sink. The latter also houses a 14-gallon (53-liter) freshwater tank and a 7-gallon (26-liter) greywater tank.

The next part of the interior is the seating area. It consists of two benches of different sizes (the one next to the kitchen is smaller) and a slide-out table integrated into the bed frame. Moreover, both benches offer storage space inside.

Alyssa runs her business remotely – since she works with visual stuff, it’s no surprise that her workstation has an iMac desktop computer. The iMac is mounted to the wall on a swivel, and she uses a mouse and keyboard on the slide-out table. It’s a nice and minimalistic setup that does the job for her, and the iMac can also double as a TV to enjoy some cozy movie nights.

Underneath the slide-out table, Alyssa devised as many drawers as she could fit: five of them. They run about two feet (61 centimeters) deep under the bed and have magnets to hold them closed while driving.

Finally, like in most camper van conversions, the bedroom occupies the rear part of the interior. It boasts an almost full-size bed mounted from side to side for a total length of 6 feet (183 centimeters), two long overhead shelves, and an upholstered headboard.

The bed is positioned higher up to make room for a garage underneath. This is where Alyssa most of her stuff, including a Mr. Buddy heater, gear, tools, and extra water.

To make full use of the available space, Alyssa mounted hanging shoe organizers to the rear doors. Moreover, she cut a shower curtain into three pieces, creating two window curtains and an extra curtain for the garage space.

The garage also houses the electrical system on its left side. Since she works from home, she needed a system powerful enough to sustain the energy load of her PC and other appliances in her rig.

This power system is capable enough – its highlights are two BattleBorn lithium batteries (we don’t know their capacity, but I assume it to be a total of 400 Ah), a 2,000 W inverter, and a charge controller connected to the 500 W solar panels on the roof.

All in all, this is a lovely tiny home on wheels that superbly blends a peaceful, welcoming decor with a very functional layout. The design and color scheme makes it look like a fancy mobile home, and its interior space is cleverly arranged and well-thought-out.
