6 Living Room Paint Color Trends Designers Say Will Be Huge in 2026

Choosing a living room paint color is a great responsibility: This is the core communal area of the home, after all, and you want the space to feel inviting, relaxed, and fresh. Heading to the paint aisle and dizzying yourself with all the potential options is one way to go about this noble mission, but another is to sit back and take your cue from interior designers who’ve got their finger on the pulse.

We asked a handful of pros about the most popular 2026 living room paint colors that look beautiful now and will endure through the years.

Iron Ore by Sherwin Williams is a striking, charcoal-rich shade with architectural precision. Its depth creates a sculptural quality in low light, offering a dramatic backdrop that accentuates form, materials, and detail.

“In natural or brighter light, it reveals subtle layers of warmth, adding dimension without softening its commanding presence,” notes interior designer Ava Milani. “This color defines a space with sophistication while remaining versatile enough for walls, trim, cabinetry, or accent features.”

She says this charcoal hue, and others like it, are a popular pick for 2026 because bold and grounded tones are leading the next wave of high-end interiors. They deliver confident drama while still feeling polished and not harsh.

Soft colors like Farrow & Ball’s Blue Gray won’t overpower a living room, but still have a hint of personality that makes the room feel special. “This color adds a sense of comfort and ease to a space, allowing homeowners to relax and really just melt into their rooms,” says interior designer Meg McSherry.

She adds, “Lately we’re seeing clients become more comfortable with color, slowly moving away from all-white walls, even in larger rooms. Nuanced colors feel timeless and classic, not intimidating.”

While maximalism is taking off and color saturation remains a favorite, there’s also room for clean and simple aesthetics. Moonlight by Backdrop Home, a warm off-white tone, is the perfect choice if that’s what you’re going for.

“It provides a kind of sweeping wash that embraces the space in warmth,” says Brittny Button, interior designer and founder of Button Atelier. “It is warm and inviting and incredibly timeless. Traditionally, whites can read as cold—this one has a built in hug with it.” Here, she mixed it with limewash for more depth.

Greige

Those looking for a classic living room paint color that still has some personality may find themselves drawn to Simple Stone by Sherwin-Williams. This neutral hue qualifies as greige, with warm and sandy undertones that give it cozy depth.

Button says it’s a popular paint color for 2026 because it’s a classic. “It has universal appeal and feels extremely elevated. And it has some grit to it,” she says. In this space, she mixed the color with a limewash to add more dimension to the walls.

Peach

Muted orange and blush pinks will soar in 2026, serving as the perfect living room paint color for personality without treading into “too much” territory.

“Aristocrat Peach by Sherwin-Williams is a warm color that feels akin to a vintage look than something crisp and cool,” says interior designer Alison Hammat. “It leaves room for layering of textures, patterns, and deeper colors. Patinated antiques look great against this warm color which acts as an inviting backdrop to bolder accents.”

Espresso Brown

This popular living room paint color from Benjamin Moore is a rich, warm brown with subtle charcoal undertones. Milani says it adapts fluidly to natural light, transitioning from a soft, inviting tone in dimmer spaces to a polished, layered presence in brighter settings. (Here it’s pictured on the upper wall and ceiling.)

“Interiors in 2026 prioritize warmth, layering, and human-centered design. Silhouette embodies these qualities, supporting curated textures, classic finishes, and thoughtful styling,” she adds. “It allows spaces to feel both intimate and elevated, offering richness and dimension without the starkness of darker neutrals.” This hue also enhances texture, furniture, and architectural details for a sense of refinement without rigidity.
