Designed by Mounika Kodali of Beyond Spaces Design Studio for a small family, this three-storeyed villa is a fusion of traditional and modern designs. The brief given by the couple to the designers was a contemporary home that didn’t shy away from colour and traditional details. And so, the house is designed with colourful artwork, artisanal touches, ornate teakwood columns and vibrancy. Guests are welcomed into a foyer that doubles as a small drawing space. A refurbished antique door hangs on a teakwood veneer wall and a hanging garuda makes an inviting foyer experience. Along the stairwell, wooden plates with Pichhwai cows adorn the walls. Patterned tiles, curved seating for the party area, and teal velvet fabric panelling for the home theatre room add eccentricity. For the outdoor terrace, a bright scarlet spiral staircase and a red bench add vibrant contrast to the black and white tiles flooring.

Nikhil Dev & Kaushik Abhinav of studio Dev & Kaushik Architects designed this villa for a family of four — a couple with two grown-up daughters. They wanted a space that was “Warm. Comforting. Cocoon-like.” The designers followed a muted colour palette throughout, painting the home in white and off-white. They added a warm and artistic touch by introducing nostalgic traditional elements while keeping the modernity intact. For a double-height staircase, a concrete slab was dismantled and fabricated in folded metal. The treads, finished in micro concrete, are enlivened with green planters. A bench, a custom-made chandelier, and a bright crimson carpet complete the space, while a beautiful painting by Sachin Samson adorns the wall. The dining area is basked with natural light and is embellished with a Pichhwai painting by Kuldeepak Soni and Naveen Soni.

Anchal Jain and Aadesh Jain, principal architects at Crenovate Designers designed this retirement villa for a couple. “If we had to surmise the designs of our childhood homes in two phrases, they would be teakwood and Tanjore paintings,” said the clients. A white colour palette, wooden furniture, and pastel furnishings beautify the space. Alluring Tanjore paintings from the client’s own collection are framed by the wall in the living room, proving their love for the art. Teakwood partitions lead into the living room. The major focal point of the dining space is a custom-designed teakwood table complemented by rattan chairs.

Adding to the list of beautiful homes in Hyderabad is ‘House on the Edge,’ a 5,000-square-foot home in Jubilee Hills designed for a young couple by principal architect Disha Bhavsar of Quirk Studio. “While beginning with a blank canvas can be daunting, the couple’s clear directive guided the design. Prioritising their passion for vibrant art and quirky furniture, the residence veered towards a backdrop that embraced a raw, unfinished aesthetic,” says Bhavsar. Lime-finished plaster walls and Kota stone flooring provide a texture. The architects have layered the neutral foundation with colour, art, and a mix of contemporary and vintage furniture, adding character to the monotone space. A vibrant art, a metal monkey sculpture, and a blue curved couch adorn the living area. The grey-toned palette continues into the walk-in wardrobe as well.
