Tom Cruise’s cabin-style space made me rethink minimalism
If you were to ask anybody who visits my small London apartment to define my home in one word, they’d probably say it’s minimalist. With the exception of my overfilled bookcase and houseplants, my living room is pared back with an overriding neutral color scheme. You may find it hard to believe, therefore, that Tom Cruise’s former Colorado home is my new dream space.
The Mission Impossible actor previously owned a ranch hidden in Telluride’s mountains, and with its zip code comes the opportunity to create a cozy yet uber luxurious ski lodge. If you’re looking for cabin decor ideas, this room is the blueprint.
It’s covered in wood panels, which, designers say, is the first step to a lodge-style home. Varying textures, including leather accent chairs, statement printed rugs, and throws, warm the space, ensuring it’s welcoming through the winter season.
Tom then decorated his space with art books, vases, and sculptures that bring a sense of his personality to the room, ensuring it’s anything but minimalist. Despite its eclectic nature, however, it’s my new favorite space ahead of fall.

‘Natural materials like stone, leather, and woven baskets can also complement the wood and will help to reinforce that rustic, lodge-like charm.’
Your choice in living room lighting is also crucial to sucsess. ‘Consider a layered approach by combining a central statement light with table lamps and wall sconces to create pockets of warmth and an inviting glow,’ Claire adds.
‘Color-wise, I would recommend choosing earthy tones like deep greens, warm ochres, and soft neutrals, which will work beautifully alongside the wood’s natural hues. You might also like to try mixing in some modern touches, such as a sleek metal fireplace screen or contemporary artwork, to keep the look feeling curated rather than dated.’
