5 Bathroom Trends That Will Take Over in 2025

Bathrooms are evolving into more than just functional spaces. They’re becoming safe havens for wellness, self-expression, and eco-conscious living. Interior designers predict that 2025 will revolutionize bathrooms with innovative design and eco-friendly solutions. “The trends we’re seeing—and are excited about—include sustainable materials, mixed metals, bold and unique tile patterns, color blocking, and multifunctional spaces,” says Sarah Snouffer, founder and principal architect at the Washington, DC-based Third Street Architecture.

“We’re also noticing that clients are becoming more comfortable infusing their personalities into their bathroom designs, focusing less on resale value,” she adds. “This shift allows for the latest trends to shine while still maintaining a timeless quality, as the design choices are deeply personal and based on what clients really want.” Here are the bathroom trends designers say will take over 2025.

Choosing the right colors helps set the tone of your bathroom, creating a calming and inviting atmosphere. Gone are the days of sterile all-white bathrooms as designers ditch them in favor of rich earth tones. “For 2025, look for many bathrooms to have earthy, neutral color palettes—shades like beige, terracotta, and soft greens,” says Rotem Eylor, the CEO and Founder of Republic Floor.

Earthy neutral tones of beige and taupe add elegance and warmth. They are timeless and versatile, creating a cozy atmosphere when paired with natural wood, stone, or metal. While greens are still in the mix for 2025, there is a shift toward softer sage and olive shades, moving away from the bold, leafy hunter-greens. These color combos generate a grounded spa-like feel, making bathrooms a calming retreat. For those with reservations about more pigmented tones, cabinetry, wallpaper, and tiles are a great place to balance pops of bold color.

Textures and patterned floor tiles

According to Snouffer, those earthy, neutral tones are being combined with deeper, richer tile colors. “This is often paired with checkered floor tiles in a marble finish for added texture,” she explains. “When it comes to tile patterns, the focus is on creativity in the layout—simple subway tiles are being used in more inventive ways to create unique, standout designs.”

“Tile patterns are becoming bolder too,” says Jenny Marrs, co-star of HGTV’s ‘Fixer to Fabulous’ and national designer for Re-Bath. “One trend is to use large-format tiles on walls and floors in creative layouts, like herringbone or a basketweave, especially in neutral tones.”

Flute, 3D, or hand-painted tile designs are also making a comeback. This trendy approach to tile lends itself to experimentation. Expect oversized tiles and reduced grout lines as bathroom lovers go for a subtle, chic look that is easy to clean.

Mixed-metal finishes

Many designers are embracing mixed-metal combinations instead of matching finishes. Snouffer says the mixed-metal trend is gaining popularity for its versatility. “It allows for flexibility in coordinating with other finishes, decor, and future updates. Plumbing fixtures are often kept in timeless finishes like chrome or nickel, while more ‘on-trend’ metals are used for hardware, light fixtures, and mirrors. The mixed-metal approach creates a curated yet relaxed feel, offering a sophisticated, less rigid aesthetic,” she explains.

“Copper is coming back and works beautiful with the trending neutral colors,” says Amber Shay, National Vice President of Design Centers at Meritage. “I think some of the more complicated layered metal finishes are more flexible.” Alternatively, matte black, brushed gold, and satin nickel finishes add a modern, masculine touch. They pair well with many design styles by adding contrast to natural tones often captured in bathroom textiles, like shower curtains, towels, and floor mats.

Maximalist designs

As bathrooms become canvases for self-expression, maximalism takes centerstage in 2025. “Maximalist designs are making a comeback,” Eylor says. “The opulent textures [paired] with timeless flooring choices [make] for a bold yet balanced look.”

The maximalist bathroom trends embrace bold patterns, vibrant colors, and eclectic layering of textures and materials. Expect the unexpected—vintage pieces with modern fixtures, repurposed items matched with bold color palettes. Moreover, anticipate beautiful scents to play a role in bathroom design aesthetics. Candles, diffusers, and sprays will play up the whimsy, as maximalists overwhelm bathroom visitors with bold artistic statements.

Sustainable and natural materials

Sustainability is no longer a buzzword. It is the cornerstone of modern design, and 2025 bathroom trends are no exception. “Sustainability will also be on highlight, so look for reclaimed wood-look tiles and eco-friendly grout,” says Eylor.

For this trend, bathrooms will feature eco-friendly materials like bamboo, reclaimed wood, natural stone, recycled glass, and rehomed furniture and fittings. Not only do these materials look great, but they also help reduce the environmental footprint of new manufacturing.

The authenticity of natural stoneware is also on trend for 2025. Organic elements, such as stone sinks, live-edge wood vanities, and ceramic potting for plants will bring a touch of the outdoors inside. These design choices align with the increasing emphasis on creating environmentally conscious homes.

Behind the walls, expect water and energy-efficient fixtures, like low-flow shower heads, toilets that conserve water, and lighting set to reduce energy consumption. As smart bathrooms become more common-place, automated features for spas are going to compliment home owners’ love for savings through conservation.
